As you can imagine the events that have occurred in the middle east over the last few weeks have caused a lot of uncertainty. Being predominantly an E-Commerce based business. I have given this some deep thought how these events could possibly affect my business moving forward.
As you know we have been supplying premium quality assistive technology and consumables from our warehouse based in Sydney all over Australia, Directly to your door using the Australia Post network.
I will start off by saying that I am no university economics graduate, nor do I have a crystal ball and can predict the exact future. What I will say is, I am an opened minded successful businessman that has an understanding of supply chains and logistics. I'm thinking about all the possibilities that may well eventuate and how these could potential affect you.
We have seen fuel prices skyrocket over the past few weeks. Whilst higher petrol prices are not good the most concerning issue we face as a society is not only the rapid increase in diesel cost but also it's availability. At this point in time there has been reports of fuel shortages in rural area's and trucking companies ceasing work due to increased fuel prices that have wiped out any profit margin.
I can certainly predict that over the coming month Australia Post will pass these extra costs onto me. I will try and absorb these costs as best as I can. I'm not sure though how long I can absorb these costs for and there may be a point in the future where I have to regrettably increase shipping cost. It won't be this month.
A concern I personally have long term, If this war was going to drag on for 3 - 4 Months is the impact to the Australian logistics framework in general, If Australia was to face severe fuel shortages remember we only have 28 days worth, This fuel shortage could possibly impact on my ability to ship these life changing products to you. Who knows, Logistics may not be impacted at all and I hope this is the case. Let's get prepared for the possibility of this occurring.
At this point in time logistics frameworks are operating and open. They are not being impacted.
If you have room in your home / garage, I would suggest being prepared and ordering some backup supplies now whilst everything is working fine.
My intentions for this email is not to scaremonger and increase my bottom line but more so to provide my insights into what may potentially happen and for you to get prepared should the worst occur.
